Report caught fish to DNR

MARQUETTE — If you fish the Great Lakes and catch a marked and tagged fish, the Michigan Department of Natural resources would like you to report it.

Some fish that are marked or tagged may be involved in a population study being done by the DNR. Some of the fish being tracked might have been tagged in a different place; the DNR wants to monitor its movements.

“The studies that are undertaken can, once you have the information acquired, lead to better management decisions or better effective use of resources that we have, including money and where we’re going to put stocking efforts, these types of things,” said DNR Public Information Officer John Pepin.

The DNR also asks that any tags found be returned to their offices. It will help them better understand the populations of fish, allocate resources and make regulations to help improve sport fishing opportunities.
