The pipe on the left is being restrained by the chains in the upper and lower portion of the picture. These chains wrap around the bell of the pipe and then are connected into the rock wall of the shaft. Once secured, a hydraulic ram (not seen in the photo) pushes the pipe on the right side of the picture into the bell of the other pipe which completes the joint. The polywrap is used to keep water off of the pipe and help protect it from corrosion. |
