This is the horizontal ram elevated on its vertical stand. The elevation of the ram is set to match the water main height when the water main is resting on its guide rails. The ram pushes the pipe horizontally to make the joints as each pipe section is added. It takes about 16,000 pounds of force to push the joint together. |
