IT'S OFFICIAL! Village of Denmark becomes newest member of the Central Brown County Water Authority

(Allouez, WI) The Village of Denmark officially became the newest member of the Central Brown County Water Authority during an agreement signing ceremony held at Gatherings 43 in Denmark, Wis. to commemorate the occasion.
“This is an exciting time for the Village as we secured a high-quality, long-term water supply for our community,” said Denmark Village President Susan Selner. “Water quality and quantity have been growing concerns in recent years, and, after considerable analysis of potential solutions, we determined that joining the Central Brown County Water Authority was the best decision. We appreciate the Authority’s leadership in working with us and welcoming the Village as a member.”
Authority Board President Sarah Burdette shared her enthusiasm. “This is an exciting new opportunity, not only for the Village but for the Authority as well,” she said. “The Authority’s water distribution system was designed with additional capacity so that it not only meets the long-term needs of the original Authority members as their communities grow, but also allowed for additional communities to become members. It’s something we’ve been planning for and we’re looking forward to serving Denmark residents and businesses.”
Design of the connection point between the Village’s water system and the Central Brown County Water Authority system will begin this year, with construction beginning in spring 2023. “We’re anticipating about six months to construct the connection,” Authority General Manager Nic Sparacio explained. “By fall of 2023, water from the Authority is expected to be flowing to the Village’s taps.”
The Village’s decision to join the Authority was made to address the following concerns:
- One of their two existing wells is over 80 years old and can no longer produce enough water to meet the required demand on its own.
- The Village is growing, and there’s a need for a more reliable water resource, both in terms of water quantity and quality.
- The Village’s firefighting response to large incidents could be limited by the existing groundwater supply wells.
The Central Brown County Water Authority is comprised of the communities of Allouez, Bellevue, Denmark, De Pere, Howard, Lawrence and Ledgeview who are working to provide a quality water supply to their residents.
